SharkTapHUB 10/100/1G features
The SharkTapHUB emulates the old-fashioned ethernet hub: Anything coming in on any of the 3 ports is sent to the other ports. Just like a
simple switch, except that each port can see all data from the other two ports. So it works as a network monitor, but also enables some other use cases. A couple of examples from our customers:
Remote monitoring: An application can monitor a network link and also send reports back through the network to a remote location
A port replicator for redundancy: One data feed in, two identical feeds sent out the other two ports
The SharkTapHUB has the same electrical specs as the standard SharkTap 10/100/1G. See below.
The SharkTapHUB does not do speed matching, so you can also mix and match ?Base-T links.
The SharkTapHUB does store-and-forward at the packet level, but is agnostic to packet formats. It will handle non-TCP/IP data.
Note that having a TAP port that accepts packets means that your monitoring PC can affect the network you are monitoring. If you had a DHCP server enabled on your PC,
for example, you could crash a network. So don't buy this model unless you have a specific need for hub-like functionality.
Power-over-ethernet (PoE) is connected between the two 'NETWORK' ports, but not to the TAP port.
